Mom of the Month: Tawna Farciert
Founder of The Middle Matters Co. | Empowering Students Through Literacy
At Macaroni Kid The Woodlands - Montgomery, we love celebrating moms who make a difference in our community. This month, we are thrilled to spotlight Tawna Farciert, a passionate educator, mom, and entrepreneur. Tawna is the founder of The Middle Matters Co., a private reading intervention and special education support business dedicated to helping K–8th grade students thrive academically and gain confidence.
Meet Tawna
Tawna has lived in the Montgomery County area twice, moving back about four years ago. She’s a full-time special education teacher, and along with her husband, manages three small businesses spanning education, music, and media design.
The household is lively! Tawna and her husband have a 16-year-old son, and her mom also lives with them. With five dogs and a cat, life can be a little chaotic. “We spend a lot of time balancing schedules and making it all work,” Tawna shares, “but it’s so worth it.”
A Day in the Life
Days start early with everyone heading off to school or work. While Tawna used to drive her son, he’s now driving himself — a bittersweet milestone!
Evenings are busy: intervention sessions at The Middle Matters Co., attending her son’s games, or (rarely) heading straight home. No matter what, dinner together is a priority. “Our nights can be short sometimes,” Tawna says, “so I really cherish that time we have together — especially with college coming up soon.”
The Inspiration Behind The Middle Matters Co.
Tawna founded The Middle Matters Co. in 2020 during COVID-19, realizing students were missing critical reading instruction during remote learning. She began online tutoring to support families, and quickly saw the need for more focused intervention.
By 2022, many students were 2-3 years behind grade level. Tawna began providing one-on-one summer sessions to target foundational reading skills. By early 2024, she shifted to in-depth reading interventions — helping students not only catch up, but thrive.
How Tawna Serves Families
The Middle Matters Co. helps K–8th grade students with:
- Personalized 1:1 reading intervention
- Support for struggling readers
- Guidance navigating the ARD and special education process
- Parent consultations and advocacy
Tawna partners with families and schools to ensure students are supported academically and emotionally — because in education, the middle truly matters.
The Most Rewarding Part
Watching her business grow from online tutoring sessions to a full office space has been incredible. “I know I’m making an impact — not just now, but in these kids’ futures,” Tawna says. Helping children build skills and confidence brings her immense joy.
Balancing Motherhood & Business
Juggling her business with family life hasn’t been easy. With a busy teen, flexibility is key. Shared calendars, weekend planning, and phone reminders (thanks, Siri!) help keep everything organized.
Why She Loves This Community
Tawna loves the small-town feel of Conroe, while also enjoying the nearby conveniences. She also treasures the close-knit community in Magnolia, which feels like family.
Fun Fact: Before becoming an educator and business owner, Tawna practiced MMA kickboxing!
Looking Ahead
Tawna dreams of traveling more personally, and professionally, she plans to earn her master’s degree and STR certification while creating resources for parents to support reading at home.
