At Macaroni Kid The Woodlands - Montgomery, we love celebrating local moms who pour their hearts into our community — women who build, create, and inspire through their passions and purpose.
This month, we’re thrilled to introduce Meru Hunter McMahon, a devoted wife, mom, mentor, and the founder of Selfie Cove Studio. This creative space in the Spring and The Woodlands area is designed to make capturing life’s and business’s most meaningful moments simple, fun, and authentic.
Meet Meru Hunter McMahon
Originally from Kazakhstan, Meru carries a story as vibrant as her personality. A trilingual who taught herself English as her third language, she has now called Texas home for about two decades. She and her husband are raising their beautiful blended family of eight, with kids ranging from 28 years to 18 months.
Meru’s journey is one of resilience and faith. “I’m a believer now, but I spent a long time trying to do everything on my own, and it didn't take me too far—just to a lot of stress!” she says with a laugh. “Now, my faith is my foundation. I follow Jesus, and that path has made all the difference. Motherhood is my greatest mission, but that calling has expanded in ways I never expected.”
A Day in the Life of a Mompreneur
Forget the typical 9-to-5. Meru’s day is a dynamic blend of family chaos and creative calm. You might find her troubleshooting a toddler meltdown one moment, then seamlessly switching to a mentoring call, helping someone through a photo shoot at the studio, or getting into her creative vibe next.
“My phone camera roll is the perfect snapshot of my life,” she says. “It’s a wild mix of toddler videos, behind-the-scenes studio content, and screenshots of encouraging messages I’m sending to the women I mentor. It’s chaotic, but it’s my beautiful chaos.”
Her secret to navigating it all? Intentional simplicity. “I don’t do complicated routines. My non-negotiables are a quiet morning prayer and a flexible plan. Peace doesn’t come from controlling everything; it comes from trusting God and the process, also knowing what truly needs your attention that day.”
Turning Passion into a Business
Selfie Cove was born out of Meru’s own need for a space that made creativity simple, joyful, and accessible. As a mom, she just wanted a good photo without the huge cost, stress, and perfection the world expects. And as a business owner and creator, she needed a quiet space to create, so her home could just be a home, and her family doesn’t have to mute themselves.
That need turned into Selfie Cove Studio, a 1,000-square-foot creative haven in The Woodlands and Spring area. With flexible setups ranging from elegant and modern to cozy and boho, it’s the kind of place that feels homey and flexible.
And for Meru, it’s about much more than photos. Selfie Cove is about confidence and connection. When someone walks in, she wants them to feel a sense of peace — to remember that they’re already enough. She wants to create a family of creators, not just rent a space, which is why we offer memberships with extra perks.
The Most Rewarding Part
For Meru, the greatest joy is watching transformation happen — in front of the camera, and in the hearts of others.
“When someone walks in feeling unsure and leaves smiling, laughing, and saying, ‘I actually had fun!’ — that’s everything,” she shares. “It’s never been about perfect photos; it’s about reminding people of their worth, their beauty, and their story in life and in business.”
Tips for Balancing Motherhood and Business
When asked about balance, Meru offers a refreshingly realistic perspective. She says that balance is a myth we stress ourselves trying to achieve. She mainly focuses on harmony instead. Some days, the kids need more of her; other days, the business does. Giving grace to pivot is key.
What She Loves About Raising a Family Here
Meru says The Woodlands and Spring area have been the perfect backdrop for both family life and creative growth. The Woodlands was her first home in Texas, so it feels like her birthplace. She has become a true Texas girl, y'all! She loves the trees…where she can feel lost at times, but yet knows what is behind every tree after living here so long. “It's a beautiful metaphor for life itself," she says.
