This constant multitasking can leave you exhausted and running on empty.

Do you ever hear yourself tell your kids, “Hold on, I just have to finish up this one last thing?” The next thing you know, you are still working an half an hour later, giving the same script to impatient little eyes looking up at you.

Mom brain is a real thing, a shared experience among us all. You constantly juggle about six things at a time, 24-7. From organizing play dates to doctor appointments, work demands, school functions, grocery runs, and not to mention taking care of your own needs, it's easy to feel like you're running on fumes. This is a one-way ticket to living in a state of complete exhaustion. Mom burnout is a real thing that can happen when you don’t take control of your schedule and carve out what will serve you and not deplete you.

Imagine a marathon runner on mile 18 who has yet to take a water break, eat a banana, or stop when their body is shutting down. They will collapse, and the race will only be finished with major changes in their training plan. The same goes for you, dear mom. Taking back your schedule is the first step to finding your balance, and it will set you up for finding your true self, not only as a mom but also as a person.

Five tips that will help you shut down mom burnout:

  1. Pay attention to what your body is telling you. The exhaustion to get out of bed, constant tension headaches, and stress in the back are just a few. You know yourself, and telling yourself to push through every day is not the answer to long-term self-care.
  2. Communicate how you feel to your partner, family, or other moms. This mom’s club is made up of other moms who get it. This could include carpool help, a coffee break, or passing chores to your significant other or your kids. Whatever it is, take the help guilt free and know this is you taking care of yourself.
  3. Move your body to boost your energy and get those positive hormones flowing. This does not mean you need to go to the gym every day, but go for a 10-minute walk and start from there. This is one of the best ways to clear your head and reset your mood to tackle the rest of the day with a healthier mindset.
  4. Practice self-compassion that you are doing big things to raise good humans. Not only is this the best way to handle life experiences, but it also models your kids to have grace for mistakes made along the way.
  5. Get your schedule, ideas, appointments, goals, and to-do list out of your brain and onto a calendar or a brain dump. Different brains need to process the day and week to-dos in different ways. You can find the best way for you. A brain dump allows you to clear your brain when you feel overwhelmed and set up an action plan to help formulate a way to tackle each task with confidence and control. You can download a free brain dump template here. (Scroll down to the bottom of the download to find the best place to get your thoughts out and in front of you)

Being a mom is a hard job, but maintaining a healthy balance is worth it. You are worth it. Just imagine the freedom of resting your mind to be present with your kids and family. That’s the best gift you can give because life will always have its ups and downs, and you will be ready for whatever comes your way!
