One delightful and easy recipe to make with toddlers is "Fruit Kabobs with Yogurt Dip." It's not only tasty but also a fantastic way to engage little ones in the kitchen while encouraging healthy eating habits. My boys and I enjoy it, even my 20 month old likes to help with the stirring!

Here's how to make it:

Ingredients:

For the Fruit Kabobs:

  • Assorted fruits (such as strawberries, bananas, grapes, pineapple, and melon), washed and cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Wooden skewers (make sure they're blunt-tipped for safety) Like THESE

For the Yogurt Dip:

  • 1 cup plain yogurt - we like to use part Greek Yogurt if we want it a little thicker
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Fruit:Wash and cut the assorted fruits into bite-sized pieces. Depending on the age and skill level of your toddlers, you can let them assist with washing (under supervision) or use child-safe knives to help with cutting softer fruits like strawberries or bananas.
  2. Thread the Fruit onto Skewers:Show your toddlers how to thread the fruit pieces onto the wooden skewers, alternating colors and shapes to make colorful patterns. This step allows them to get hands-on with the food and encourages creativity.
  3. Make the Yogurt Dip:In a small bowl, mix together the plain yogurt, honey or maple syrup, and vanilla extract (if using). Stir until well combined. Taste and adjust the sweetness if desired. Toddlers can help with pouring and stirring under supervision.
  4. Serve and Enjoy:Arrange the fruit kabobs on a serving platter alongside the yogurt dip. Encourage your toddlers to dip the fruit skewers into the yogurt dip before taking a bite. They'll love the combination of flavors and textures!

Tips:

  • Keep safety in mind when using skewers with toddlers. Opt for blunt-tipped wooden skewers and supervise closely to prevent any accidents.
  • Use a variety of fruits to make the kabobs more appealing and nutritious. You can also let your toddlers choose their favorite fruits to include.
  • Get creative with presentation! Arrange the fruit kabobs in fun shapes or patterns on the serving platter to make snack time even more enjoyable for little ones.

This Fruit Kabobs with Yogurt Dip recipe is not only a tasty treat but also a wonderful way to introduce toddlers to different fruits and involve them in the kitchen. I also suggest trying it with cooked/uncooked veggies and opt for a ranch dressing if you need a dip for that!

Enjoy making and munching on these delightful snacks together!
