New to Montgomery: My Top 5 Favorite Things about Montgomery, TX

New to Montgomery, but it already feels like home. This momma's top 5 fave things (so far!)

By Ashley Lancaster November 15, 2020

Well, first of all, hello! My name is Ashley Lancaster and if you haven't already guessed, I am the publisher of Macaroni Kid Montgomery, this new, free website and weekly newsletter that shares kid-friendly events, activites, classes, and resources with Montgomery, TX mommas!

It might seem strange that I decided to create this service since I'm so new here. But one thing you will learn about me is that when I do something new, I go ALL OUT! My husband and two boys and I moved here on September 6, 2020 from my born-and-raised hometown of Katy, TX. From the first day, we were blown away by the friendliness of the people here and the perfect combo of small-town charm with the convenience of an area that is seeing massive economic growth.

Having never lived anywhere but my hometown before, I was nervous to start over with no contacts or friends close by. But I have to say, since I have been here, I have felt so at peace and at home.

As I explore this amazing community and meet new people, I want to share the resources, businesses, and events that I find along the way with Montgomery, TX mommas. Whether you're a lifelong resident, or a newbie like me, we can all support local businesses and grow together. My family and I have only scratched the surface of all that Montgomery, TX has to offer, and we can't wait to create more memories here.

As a new resident, here are my Top 5 favorite things about Montgomery, TX so far.

1. Cape Conroe Neighborhood
While everyone I've met so far in Montgomery, TX has been helpful and welcoming, we have been SO happy with our decision to live in Cape Conroe. The neighbors are outgoing and friendly and there are tons of kids the same age as our boys for them to play with. Plus, we come from a town built on prairie land and rice fields, so access to the lake and the natural beauty of Lake Conroe is something new and exciting for us!

2. Tony's Italian Delicatessen
O-M-G. On our move-in day, we were starving and looking for something close to grab a quick dinner. A neighbor suggested Tony's and to be honest, we've eaten here at least once a week since Day One. The ingredients are so fresh, and I CANNOT handle the garlic butter that's drizzled over the edges of the perfectly toasted bun. I keep it simple with the Meatball sub, but my husband loves the "Rocky Marciano", which comes with Capicola, Genoa Salami, Soppressata, Provolone Cheese, Roasted Red Pepper, and an Olive Smear. For the kids, we order the Turkey Melt and let them split it because the portions here are enormous. If you're new to Montgomery, TX this place is a must-try.

 3. HOTWORX Fitness Studio
I was SO EXCITED when I learned that Montgomery, TX has a HOTWORX studio - and even MORE excited to learn that there is a second location opening next door to Chick-fil-A on Hwy. 105 in December. I was a member of the HOTWORX 24-hour, infrared fitness studio in my hometown, and quickly became addicted. The infrared heat not only torches calories and fat, but it also detoxes and is just a great way to de-stress. Plus, the studio is open 24-7 and has 8-10 different sessions from Hot Yoga to Hot Cycling, and they're only 30 minutes long. I literally can't wait until the new location opens right across the street from me. I've followed them on Facebook and Instagram to keep track of construction and look for Grand Opening specials. Hello, New Years Resolution!

4. Montgomery ISD
My two boys are 13 and 10, and attend Montgomery Junior High and Stewart Creek Elementary. We have been absolutely blown away and so impressed by the level of personal attention, the acceptance of their peers, and the overall academic performance we've seen since being here. Moving to a new city as a kid is always scary - but my boys have been nothing but happy and are making friends and adjusting well. The staff and administration are great at communicating with us, and we love the small-town atmosphere of attending high school football games!

5. Landshark Bar & Grill, Lake Conroe
Like I said, the lake is our favorite place right now. Any chance we get to eat on a patio looking out at the water feels like a mini-vacation. To date, our favorite dinner outing so far has been when we took the boat across the lake to the Landshark Bar & Grill at Margaritaville Lake Resort - Lake Conroe. To tie down at the dock, relax on the patio with great music, and eat fried pickles while watch passing boats drift by was something my kids LOVED.

These are just five of one thousand things my husband and I have been impressed with since arriving in Montgomery, TX. If you are new here, add me on Facebook and let's get to know this amazing community together. If you've been here a while, I hope it was refreshing to see "home" through a newbie's eyes.
